SLOT CLASSIC started their new line dedicated to transport vehicles with the Mercedes 170 SD van belonging to Automotores Fangio, a company owned by the five-time Formula 1 world champion in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Juan Manuel Fangio, a.k.a. El Chueco, was born in Balcarce, Buenos Aires, in 1911. He is widely regarded as one of the best competition drivers of all time. A five-time Formula 1 champion, he earned two of these titles at the wheel of cars built by Mercedes-Benz in 1954 and 1955.
In time, his excellent relationship with the company led El Chueco to create Automotores Fangio and open a Mercedes-Benz dealership in the Barracas neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. This 1954 170 S-D delivery van was his company’s very first official vehicle. It was used for deliveries and mechanical assistance on a daily basis, even taking part at the 1962 Buenos Aires Grand Prix as a Mercedes-Benz team assistance vehicle. It carried a 500 kg load, and had the peculiarity of having had its front fenders cut off.
